We named a float studio after the punchline to the universe. Here's why that's not a joke. And who's behind the one place in Southeast Missouri where you can set everything down.
The name
Why 42?
In Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a supercomputer spends seven and a half million years calculating the answer to life, the universe and everything. The answer comes back: 42. The catch: nobody actually knew what the question was.
That's the joke, and it's also the truest thing we know about modern life. We're all sprinting toward answers without much room to figure out what we're really asking. Floating is the rare hour with no noise, no weight and no demands, the space where your own questions finally get quiet enough to hear. We thought that deserved a name with a wink in it. So: Float 42. Don't panic.

Kati Knaup
Kati is the founder of The Healing Academy, the licensed counseling practice next door in Suite 8, which she opened in 2023 after a twenty-year dream, now home to six therapists. She's an adjunct professor at Southeast Missouri State University, where she trains the next generation of counselors, and she supervises clinicians working toward licensure.
Her work centers on families, children, caregivers and adults navigating stress, anxiety and life transitions. Float 42 is the natural extension of that: a place where the nervous-system reset of floating can support, deepen and complement the therapeutic work she's devoted her career to.

Bobby Brewer
Bobby is a USA National Champion, US Open Champion and ten-time USA National Team member who spent his swimming career chasing the smallest possible margins, and the rest of it studying how athletes actually recover and perform. He's an ASCA Level 4 coach with a Master's in Sport Science Management, and the founder of River City Swim Academy and head coach of River City Aquatics.
He brings the performance side of Float 42 to life: recovery science, the psychology of stillness, and the visualization work that turns a float into mental training. Between Kati's clinical depth and Bobby's performance background, Float 42 is built on an unusually complete understanding of the mind and the body.

The Healing Academy offers licensed counseling, mental health evaluations and therapeutic care. Float 42 offers the deep nervous-system rest that makes that work land harder, and pairs naturally alongside physical therapy, chiropractic care or massage as part of a broader recovery routine.
